In the early 1990s, black metal began
to take off in Norway and it left the peaceful Scandinavian country
reeling in its aftermath. Until the Light
Takes Us, directed by Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell, is
a 2008 American documentary film about the Norwegian Black Metal in those years where everything, about crimes, happened. It was released on December 4, 2009.
As protagonists in the first place we find Gylve “Fenriz” Nagell (Darkthrone) and Varg “Count Grishnackh” Vikernes (Burzum) interviewed when he was still in prison(found guilty and sentenced to 21 years for the murder of Euronymous). Until the Light Takes Us explores every aspect of the controversial movement that has captured the attention of the world. For example The Inner Circle, responsible for about fifty churches burned and other serious crimes. This is the movie that gets inside the minds and hearts of black metal's musicians.

The soundtrack, “The Ballad of the Broken Birdie Records” by Múm, is really impressive, and this documentary makes it clear what really happened in those years in the cold Bergen, directly from the words of those who then were there. However, there may have been more interviews of various front-man from other Norwegian black metal bands.
I think that if you love this music
and you’re interested in the secret story behind these bands, you can’t definitely
miss out this amazing documentary.
